Toothpaste created based on propolis

Many myths are woven around toothpastes. For some product only aesthetic, while primarily for manufacturers, are offered as a panacea against cavities.
The truth in all this is that without being a magic solution, toothpastes do represent a factor that contributes to the fight against dental disease more prevalent in Araucanía. Precisely for this reason, a regional research group is hoping to contribute to regional health from the creation of a new toothpaste based on propolis which claims high efficiency against cavities.
The innovative product was born from the work of researchers from the University of La Frontera, Pontifical Catholic University of Chile and Knop Laboratories, whose highest ambition is to compete in the domestic market on an equal footing with their foreign counterparts, asserting their properties, which are 100% natural and effective.

This toothpaste is the end result Fondef Project entitled "Therapeutic Goods anticariogenic, use of the antibacterial properties of honey and bee propolis native origin: a new alternative for apiculture industry development", awarded in 2006 by the academic University of La Frontera, Luis Salazar.
The essential added value of the product are the properties of propolis, as it is shown to have higher content of polyphenols, which are the active ingredients that produce the antibacterial activity.
Also attributed antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-angiogenic, anti-carcinogenic, anti-parasitic and anti-fungal. "All these conditions make it a perfect item to be incorporated into oral health. Were beneficial effects seen in ulcers, diseases such as periodontitis, gingivitis and tooth decay, among others," Dr. Salazar specified.

While regional dentists are still unaware of the effectiveness that may have this product, there are similarities in that while the toothpaste is a factor that helps in preventing tooth decay is not the only one. "Overall toothpastes have over a thousand parts per million of fluoride used to prevent tooth decay, however, each case is different so the recommendation is to consult a specialist about what stuff, toothbrushes and dental floss should be used" , said Dr. Anna Maria Botto, regional president of the College of Dentists.
According to the specialist, caries is multifactorial so that in addition to hygiene, we must pay attention to the nutritional aspects. "Fluoride, what it does is strengthen the tooth that is the host of the bacteria that causes tooth decay."
